Quick and Easy Shrimp Étouffée

Quick and Easy Shrimp Étouffée

Quick and Easy Shrimp Étouffée

Étouffée is a spicy gravy that consists of sauteed shrimp and vegetables that is traditionally served over rice.  This Quick and Easy Shrimp Étouffée is my version of the New Orleans classic.  The inspiration for this dish came from The Warehouse in Alexandria, Virginia.  I had a dish of fried catfish smothered in shrimp and crawfish étouffée.  The fish was fried perfectly, but the étouffée was a little bland for my tastes.  My version of shrimp étouffée is a little spicier and has more of a deep seafood flavor.  Whether you smother some fried catfish, or serve over rice, this shrimp étouffée is quick, easy, and delicious. The World's Best Banana Bread

The World’s Best Banana Bread

Banana bread is one of my favorite things to bake.  What makes The World’s Best Banana Bread is the streusel topping and the rum glaze.  The texture of the nuts are a great elevates the texture of the moist soft loaf, and the sweet, slightly boozy rum glaze sends the flavor of this bread into orbit. Candied Pecan Ice Cream

 Candied Pecan Ice Cream

Ice cream is my greatest weakness.  I know advertising your weakness over the internet is probably a terrible idea, but I actively invite all of you to try to take advantage.  I don’t know what it is, but I’m always in the mood for ice cream.  It could be that I remember sitting at my grandparent’s dining room table eating ice cream with my grandmother.  Or maybe, it could be the trips to Dairy Queen after little league games.  Whatever it is, ice cream always brings a smile to my face.  I hope this recipe for candied pecan ice cream brings a smile to yours.   Continue reading “Candied Pecan Ice Cream”

Candied Pecans

Candied Pecans

Candied Pecans

Candied pecans are an addictive and tasty snack that is quick and easy to make.  These pecans can be eaten out of hand, used as a topping for sweet potatoes or can be added to desserts (more on that later).  The first time I remember eating candied pecans was on a trip to Houston, Texas.  I was traveling with a couple friends and we stayed at a hotel that gave out coupons for free hors d’oeuvres and drinks at the hotel bar.  My friends and I took full advantage of their generosity and tried every hors d’oeuvre on the menu.  The candied pecans were by far the best thing we tasted.   They were the perfect snack to eat while sitting at a bar and having a couple drinks before going out for the night.   Continue reading “Candied Pecans”
